Fecal Immunochemical Test (FIT) Kits

Fecal immunochemical test (FIT) kits for colon cancer screening are now available at health centres in the Grand Council Treaty #3 First Nation Communities. A FIT is a free, at-home test that can help find colon cancer early. If colon cancer is found early and treated, there is a 90% chance that it
can be cured.

You should get checked with FIT every two years if you:

  • Are ages 50 to 74
  • Have no symptoms of colon cancer
  • Have no personal history of colon cancer
  • Have no parent, sibling or child who has been diagnosed with colon cancer

Talk to your healthcare provider about whether getting checked for colon cancer with FIT is right for you.

To complete your FIT kit:

  1. Pick up your FIT kit from your health centre
  2. Make sure your FIT kit has everything you need
  3. Collect the sample by following the instruction sheet
  4. Bring the FIT kit back to the health centre within 2 days
  5. Results will be mailed directly to you and sent to your healthcare provider. If you have questions, contact your healthcare provider
