Grand Council Treaty #3 Offers Condolences on the Passing of Frank Young

Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh and Grand Council Treaty #3 offer condolences to the family of Frank Young and the communities of Red Earth First Nation and Shoal Lake Cree Nation. Five years old Frank Young had been missing since April 19 and was found deceased July 9 on Red Earth First Nation.

“The loss of a child is something that no family should ever have to endure,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “On behalf of the leadership of Grand Council Treaty #3, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to Frank’s family and his community. Every child matters, and the loss of Frank is a loss that is felt by the entire Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.”

“As advocates for the voices of children and youth, it is with great sorrow that we extend our prayers to the family and community of Frank Young,” said the Treaty #3 Oshkiniigiig Youth Executive Council. “We pray for their healing, for their strength, and for the courage to make it through this difficult time. We ask for leadership at all levels to advocate on behalf of children, youth, and families to ensure that families receive the necessary support and resources to bring their loved ones home. Every family deserves the opportunity to find peace.”

Grand Council Treaty #3 encourages its citizens to offer up prayers of healing for the family and if they can to leave their outside light on and to tie an orange ribbon outside. Frank was precious; and his family and community never stopped looking. Symbolically by the outside light and orange ribbon we honour Frank’s young life from across our territory. We can light up the darkness in hopes of letting Frank’s family know we share their loss. Grand Council Treaty #3 will continue to stand with Red Earth First Nation in the wake of this devastating loss for their community.
