Grand Council Treaty #3 Statement on Upholding Safe, Fair and Accountable Processes

October 15, 2026

Considering recent public conversations, we would like to provide some context into the process at GCT3 and affirm our commitment to the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 that all allegations are taken seriously and that the processes we engage in are safe, compassionate and fair for all parties involved.

GCT3 represents the traditional government of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 and is a corporate entity under Canadian law. It is through harmonizing these two distinct identities that we strive to serve the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3. Our overarching processes prioritize the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3’s governance and leadership, while supplementing through western policies and procedures. This ensures various supports are available through multiple pathways when workplace allegations arise.

Allegations of any nature take a great deal of courage to be brought forward, and when GCT3 becomes aware of an allegation, GCT3 follows the appropriate, transparent and accountable processes that are guided by our governing policies and in accordance with the Canadian law. The processes exist to protect our staff, and those elected and appointed to conduct business to support the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3. The opportunity for traditional healing, support and reconciliation are always available where parties wish to engage in traditional processes.

Through a western process, where appropriate, an in-depth third-party investigation is conducted and recommendations from those investigations are implemented. Our priority remains healing between individuals through traditional practices such as healing circles and teachings from Treaty #3 Elders.
