Grand Council Treaty #3 Congratulates Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation on Major Infrastructure and Community Investments
Grand Council Treaty #3 extends congratulations to Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation on two recent funding announcements that will support important infrastructure upgrades and ongoing efforts to improve community wellbeing.
The first announcement was made in community by Minister Greg Rickford, Ontario’s Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, alongside Chief Linda McVicar of Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation. Over $2 million in funding through the Health and Safety Water Stream will support the replacement of 60 drain fields across both Windigo Island and Regina Bay, addressing current infrastructure needs while supporting future community development.
A second announcement highlighted a partnership with the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to support community-driven improvements that contribute to quality of life and wellbeing. A $360,000 investment will be used to upgrade the outdoor rink and improve the BBQ area, representing one of many ongoing efforts to enhance community spaces where families can connect, play, and enjoy the outdoors throughout the year.
Access to safe infrastructure and community gathering spaces is essential for healthy, thriving communities. These investments reflect the importance of working alongside First Nation leadership to support both essential services and incremental improvements that contribute to long-term community wellbeing.
Grand Council Treaty #3 acknowledges the leadership of Chief and Council for their continued advocacy and commitment to improving the wellbeing of their community members. We look forward to seeing the positive impacts these projects will bring to Animakee Wa Zhing #37 First Nation.
