Treaty #3 Territory – The Office of the Ogichidaa welcomes the recent announcement made by Minister Greg Rickford, Ontario’s Minister of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation, regarding a $4.2 million investment to support water treatment plant upgrades in Mitaanjigamiing First Nation. The funding, provided through the Health and Safety Water Stream, will enhance drinking water quality, protect public health, and support long-term community development.

The announcement was made alongside Chief Janice Henderson, Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, Council, Elders and community members, recognizing the collaborative efforts that continue to advance essential infrastructure improvements for the Nation.

Access to safe, reliable drinking water is fundamental to community health, dignity, and well-being. The planned upgrades will strengthen system reliability and capacity while supporting the long-term sustainability of the community’s water infrastructure.

“This investment is an important step in supporting the health and well-being of Mitaanjigamiing First Nation,” said Ogichidaa Kavanaugh. “We acknowledge the leadership of the community and welcome investments that help ensure safe drinking water for families today and for future generations.”

The Office of the Ogichidaa remains committed to working with First Nations and partners to support infrastructure projects that protect public health and strengthen communities across Treaty #3 Territory.
