Treaty #3 Youth Assembly

Wauzhusk Onigum Nation, Ontario – On Tuesday, March 13th and Wednesday March 14th 2018, Treaty #3 members ages 16-29, gathered at the Youth Assembly.  Led by the Treaty #3 Youth Council, critical engagement of youth occurred on a broad scale of issues affecting their territory.  This inaugural event focused on high-level social, legal, educational, health, and environmental issues impacting Treaty #3 communities.

Will Landon of the Youth Council commented: “This is the first event of its kind that engages young people in high level discussions, encourages dialogue on these issues, and provides an accountable and meaningful way for their voices to reach the Chiefs in Assembly. Moving forward it is important that all 28 Nations continue to invest in their young people by encouraging participation and providing opportunities to develop their leadership skills. Both today and in the future these young leaders will contribute to a strong Treaty #3 Nation.”

Treaty #3 Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh and Federal Liberal MP, Robert Nault both participated in the gathering.  This allowed for fundamental and indispensable discussions that brought current political leaders with those who will take the helm in the future.
