Grand Council Treaty#3 selects the new Gaakinawataagizod, Cheyenne Vandermeer
Grand Council Treaty#3 is pleased to announce the new Gaakinawataagizod, Cheyenne Vandermeer from Couchiching First Nation.
Leadership from across the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 gathered at Manitou Mounds Roundhouse at Rainy River First Nations for the Traditional Selection process for the Gaakinawataagizod on May 7, 2024. The selection process was supported by Electoral Officer, Howard Copenace, community Elders; Dorothy Medicine, Albert Hunter and Murray Bombay, as well as Elders Fred Kelly, Onigaming and Margaret Gardner, Migisi Sahgaigan, the community drum Bwaanidewe’igan and Chief Marcel Medicine Horton. Miigwech to Rainy River First Nations for hosting the Traditional selection process in their community.
