Overview:

The Senior Energy Specialist will support the planning and coordination of clean energy initiatives across Treaty #3 Territory, including community engagement, identification of energy opportunities, project development, partnerships, funding opportunities, and reporting.

The position will work closely with Treaty #3 communities, government, industry, utilities, and other partners to advance clean energy projects and build regional capacity. The Senior Energy Specialist will report directly to the Manager of the Economic Department.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Energy Project Coordination & Management.
  • Community Engagement & Energy Needs Assessment.
  • Clean Energy Opportunity Identification & Project Development.
  • Preliminary Feasibility Analysis & Concept Development.
  • Strategic Partnership & Stakeholder Relations.
  • Funding, Financing & Investment Opportunity Development.
  • Energy Research, Data Analysis & Strategic Planning.
  • Project Administration, Performance Measurement & Reporting.
  • Development of Energy Strategies, Recommendations and Project Plans.
  • Coordination with First Nations, governments, utilities, industry, technical consultants and other energy-sector partners.
  • Support increased Anishinaabe in Treaty #3 participation in clean energy development and help to find economic opportunities throughout Treaty #3 Territory.
  • Regular travel to Treaty #3 communities to support engagement, project identification and development.
  • All other related duties assigned by the supervisor and the Leadership of GCT#3.

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in energy, renewable energy, engineering, environmental studies, business administration, economic development, project management, public policy, Indigenous studies, or a related field.
  • Relevant experience in energy, clean energy, economic development, infrastructure, project management, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects, developing workplans, coordinating deliverables, monitoring timelines, and preparing project reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of clean energy development, energy infrastructure, renewable energy, energy resilience, or related areas.
  • Experience conducting research, preliminary assessments, feasibility analysis, business cases, or project development.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining relationships with First Nations, governments, utilities, industry, funding agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience with community engagement, facilitation, consultation, workshops, and working directly with First Nation communities.
  • Demonstrated experience identifying government funding, grants, financing, investment, and partnership opportunities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Treaty and Aboriginal rights and issues affecting First Nations and Indigenous communities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous economic development and opportunities for Indigenous participation in the energy sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, briefing notes, proposals, presentations, and strategic recommendations.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout Treaty #3 Territory, including remote communities.
  • Experience working with governmental and non-governmental agencies is considered an asset.
  • Experience working in an Indigenous organization, First Nation, Tribal Council, or Indigenous economic development environment is considered an asset.
