Grand Council Treaty #3 Mourns the Loss of Richard Green

April 7, 2026

With deep sadness; Grand Council Treaty #3 extends its condolences to the family and friends of Richard Green of Shoal Lake 40, “Mizhakii Binesii” Mooz Ndootem. Richard was our dear friend, a dedicated member of the Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School Advisory committee, and a respected and devoted member of our community.

Richard generously gave his time and heart through his work with the Cecilia Jeffrey Residential School Advisory Committee. He was the voice of those who never made it home and the advisory council will hold his words close as they continue the work he started. His commitment to truth, healing, and reconciliation left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him. He approached his work with compassion, integrity, and a deep respect for survivors of residential school and their stories.

Beyond his contributions to the committee, Richard will be remembered for his kindness, strength of character, and unwavering dedication to supporting others. He was a steady and thoughtful presence who brightened everyone’s day, whether that be from his witty sense of humor, or his teachings. His legacy will continue to guide and inspire the work of the CJ Advisory committee and the broader community.

Grand Council Treaty #3 also recognizes and deeply appreciates Richard’s contributions over the past several years translating at Chiefs Assemblies, helping to keep Anishinaabemowin strong and ensuring our language continues to live and be shared among our leadership and communities.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Richard’s family, friends, and all those who were touched by his life and work. He will be greatly missed.
