Overview:  

The Grand Council “Director of Wii chi it tii taa Miina (Social)” supports and drives the unit forward as it relates to the direction set by the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 to advocate for responsive and effective services to address Abinooji Inaakonigewin, MMIWG, Trafficking, Poverty, Child Welfare, Gender Violence.

The Social Unit engages with communities, Tribal Councils, and organizations to coordinate information, resources, facilitate and communicate, throughout the region for the benefit of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 through mandates provided by the Social Chiefs Committee and constituent councils through Treaty #3’s 4 Directional Governance Model. The role of the Director combines strategic leadership, advocacy, program oversight, relationship building and a strong commitment of Anishinaabe values, Treaty and inherent rights and community wellness.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise mentor, and support management and staff, fostering a positive, respectful and culturally safe work environment.
  • Alongside Grand Council Treaty #3 Directors and Administration lead a workplace environment founded in accountability, empowerment and support of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
  • Ensure reporting to funders, leadership, nation as needed.
  • Manage, execute and develop budgets as it relates to the Social Unit and ensuring sustainable capacity for mandates provided by the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
  • The monitoring, analysis, information sharing and advocacy of federal & provincial legislation, regulations, and policy direction in areas applicable to Treaty #3 Social portfolio.
  • Ensure effective delivery of advocacy and support through the Social Unit for the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
  • Support the implementation of Anishinaabe-led approaches to child and family well-being and community capacity building.
  • The preparation of informational materials, policy briefs, newsletter articles and product development
  • Regular communication to COO, CEO and political leadership on emerging/current issues emanating from potential impact
  • Building/maintaining/ enhancing the working relations with Grand Council Treaty #3 Employees, partners and Treaty #3 Communities.
  • Hold quarterly meetings with the Chiefs Committee on Social Sustainability to provide information and recommendations for the Chiefs Assemblies.
  • During an emergency epidemic/pandemic situation, job duties will be reviewed and reassigned accordingly.
  • All other related duties assigned by your supervisor and the Leadership of GCT#3.

 

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a university degree bachelor and three years of related experience, or an advanced/professional degree and two years of experience in related policy
  • Proficient in spoken and written English with an understanding of the Anishinaabe language and history of the Anishinaabe peoples of Treaty #3.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and MS
  • Punctual, meticulous and reliable with courteous manners to the
