Welcoming Lucas King as the New Grand Council Treaty #3 CEO
Grand Council Treaty #3 is excited to share that Lucas King will be taking on the new role of Chief Executive Officer, effective September 24th, 2025.
The role of CEO has been created to strengthen organizational leadership and enhance our strategic capacity, and will be replacing the existing role of Executive Director. Lucas began working with the organization’s Territorial Planning Unit in 2016, and is looking forward to moving forward with Grand Council Treaty #3 in this new capacity.
Boozhoo,
It is with deep humility and great excitement that I step into the role of CEO in service to the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3. I am honoured to continue to work with such a passionate and dedicated team, and I look forward to working alongside the leadership and staff of the Grand Council Treaty #3 to support and uplift the Nation’s vision, values, and inherent rights.
Since joining Grand Council Treaty #3 in 2016, I felt a strong sense of purpose and responsibility. The commitment of the staff, the strength of communities, and the wisdom of knowledge keepers and leadership are imperative in protecting the Treaty and asserting jurisdiction and Anishinaabe Inaakonigewin.
As many of you know, my personal time is spent mostly on the waters of Lake of the Woods and it is where I find peace and clarity – Nibi is life and it is what connects us all. That relationship to the water continues to inspire me every day and excites me about working with the GCT3 team in accomplishing the vision and mandate.
As we move forward together, I am committed to fostering a collaborative and supportive environment where every voice is valued. I believe that leadership is about listening, empowering, and standing together. The strength of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 lies in the unity, culture, and collective vision for the future that provides the foundation of Nationhood.
I recognize that as a settler there is much to learn, and I welcome the opportunity to grow alongside this incredible team. I want to thank the leadership of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3, knowledge keepers and staff members of GCT3 who I have had the privilege to learn from over the years and commit to continuing to learn and grow in this position. I am here to support and advocate for the important work that our GCT3 staff do every day and ensure it reflects the spirit and intent of Treaty #3 and the mandates provided by the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
Miigwech for welcoming me into this role. I look forward to meeting each of you, hearing your stories, and working together to serve the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
– Lucas King
