Grand Council Treaty #3 Announces New Distribution Centre to Support Housing and Construction Across the Nation

July 8, 2025

Grand Council Treaty #3, in partnership with Naotkamegwanning First Nation, is proud to announce that development is underway for the Treaty #3 Distribution Centre – a major step forward in addressing housing challenges across the Nation.

Located centrally amongst Treaty #3 communities, the Distribution Centre will be developed 11 km north of Sioux Narrows off Highway 71 in Naotkamegwanning First Nation and will serve as a secure, reliable, and efficient storage space for construction materials. The Centre is expected to streamline the delivery of building supplies to Treaty #3 communities by reducing transportation costs, speeding up distribution, and improving access to essential resources.

The Distribution Centre will supply both affordable construction materials and prefabricated housing options to all 28 Treaty #3 communities. It will also serve as a hub for skill-building, offering public training in areas such as skilled trades, design, home inspection, and land management.

This initiative was made possible through the strong collaboration of Treaty #3 communities and partners. Naotkamegwanning First Nation has generously made the land available for the site, supporting the vision of a centralized space to serve all of Treaty #3. Grand Council Treaty #3 is leading the overall development of the project, with Saulteaux Consulting offering technical guidance and Jarnel Contracting overseeing construction. Together, these partners are working in the spirit of Nation-building, bringing their knowledge and strengths together to create a space that will support communities for generations to come.

“I am proud to support the development of the Treaty #3 Distribution Centre in Naotkamegwanning First Nation,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “This project represents a critical step in addressing the housing needs of our Nation and ensuring our communities have access to the materials needed to build safe and healthy homes. It also shows the strength of what we can accomplish when we work together. Through strong partnerships and a shared vision, we are building not only infrastructure, but a future rooted in self-determination, unity and prosperity for all Treaty #3.”
