The Environmental division safeguards the lands, waters, and natural laws of Anishinaabe territory through stewardship guided by traditional values. The Territorial Planning Unit provides a framework for sustainable development grounded in community consultation. Manitou Aki Inakonigaawin enshrines sacred laws for protecting the land, and Fish & Wildlife programs promote the respectful harvesting and management of natural resources.
This portfolio supports the Nation’s inherent responsibility to protect the environment for future generations. It combines Western scientific methods with Anishinaabe knowledge systems to ensure balanced, culturally-rooted land-use planning. Protecting sacred spaces, preserving biodiversity, and addressing the impacts of climate change are key priorities in this ongoing work.
Zhaagimaa Waabo (TPU)
The Territorial Planning Unit (TPU) works with Treaty #3 Leadership to protect the lands, waters, and resources within the 55,000 square miles that make up the Treaty #3 Territory.

Fish & Wildlife
The Fish and Wildlife Department of Treaty #3 administers a comprehensive program that monitors and awards licenses for fishing, hunting and trapping, and ensures that wildlife is properly managed.
