Respect for Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 in Resource Extraction
The Office of the Ogichidaa condemns the actions and language demonstrated by Golden Rapture Mining in respect of the Leadership of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3. When any resource development agency enters into Treaty #3 Territory, they are subject to the laws and protocols of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3. Internally and externally, we are guided to respect the 8 Grandfather teachings in our way of life.
The disparaging comments made by representatives of Golden Rapture Mining directly breach this respectful conduct and ultimately are a reflection of the Crown as a delegated authority for consultation. The continued mistreatment of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 peoples and communities through these processes are detrimental to not only the necessary processes to duly authorize projects but additionally to protect the spirit of the lands and waters throughout the Territory. GCT3 has reached out to Ontario and expects Ontario to initiate a discussion with GCT3 and review its processes to ensure that respect of Treaty #3 peoples, communities and laws are upheld through the spirit of Treaty #3.
As a reminder, any and all projects entering Treaty #3 Territory must be authorized through the laws and protocols of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 and Treaty #3 Communities. Manito Aki Inaakonigewin provides guiding principles for this respectful process.
