Grand Council Treaty #3 presents 1st Annual Strides for Strength 5K Run/Walk

Grand Council Treaty #3 with support of the Women’s Council Gaagiidoo-ikwewag and Youth Executive Council Oshkiniigiig is introducing the 1st Annual Strides for Strength 5K Run/Walk in Fort Frances on July 23, 2022, hosted by Couchiching First Nation.

The Strides for Strength run/walk aims to eliminate the stigma and social barriers that prevent Indigenous people from living in a world free of harm. The run/walk is in honour of the families, survivors, and those impacted by mental, emotional, physical, and sexual violence. All proceeds raised by the participants will be put towards at risk youth and anti-violence initiatives.

“It is initiatives such as The Strides for Strength Run/Walk that encourage us to maintain our ongoing efforts to come to terms with a troubled past and continue our on our path of healing as a Nation,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “I applaud the leadership of the Women’s Council and Youth Executive Council and lift them up in their efforts to have these difficult conversations and raise awareness on the impacts of violence in the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.”

Grand Council Treaty #3 will continue to press for action on the 231 Calls to Justice and 94 Calls to Truth and Reconciliation to bring an end to violence in all of its forms so that families can build safer futures for themselves and their communities in the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.

Miigwech to our sponsors who have taken an opportunity to partner with Grand Council Treaty #3 and lend their support to this important initiative.
