Grand Council Treaty #3 Administration Office Build heralds the beginning of an exciting era and opportunity for the organization and the citizens of Treaty #3

Grand Council Treaty #3 (GCT#3) Board of Directors and Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh met on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 to break ground in Kenora for the future Administration Office of Grand Council Treaty #3.

The proposed office building will take approximately 18 to 24 months to construct and when completed will consist of 26,000 square feet over 3 levels. The location will provide for high visibility for Grand Council Treaty #3, offer specialized environmental controls to care for items of historical and cultural significance, as well as address the need for space for the Office of the Ogichidaa(kwe) in order to host Treaty #3 leadership, elders and visiting dignitaries. The location also affords easy access for staff, clients, and visitors as well as space for ample parking.

The state of the art building will be energy efficient and utilize building materials which are durable, sustainable, and embrace the natural landscape. The space will benefit from an integrated design approach that will facilitate accessibility and staff productivity, as well as flexibility in its private and semi-private spaces and conference meeting capacity. The design has considered many perspectives such as natural light, soundproofing, acoustics and future growth considerations.

Ogichidaa Kavanaugh remarked, “I am grateful for the Board for the passion and dedication they bring to their roles and I acknowledge their time and commitment to supporting the Administration of Grand Council Treaty #3 fulfill its strategic planning goals.”

GCT#3 leadership had identified the need for an Administration Office to better serve the people of Treaty #3 and meet the growing needs of the staff. The Board of Directors determined that the best process would be to buy land that was easily accessible and located centrally in Kenora and undertake a custom build to meet the current and future needs of Grand Council Treaty #3.

They were joined at the site by Mayor Poirier, City of Kenora in celebration of this important milestone. “We are honoured to see the development of the head Administrative Office of Grand Council Treaty 3 taking place in Kenora.  The development will be a beautiful addition to the area providing culturally appropriate space for the leadership of Treaty 3 to advance business of the First Nations.”
