Statement on the Ontario Election

Kenora, ON – Today Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh, Grand Chief of Treaty 3, delivered the following statement:

“Congratulations to all those who participated as candidates and volunteers in the lead up to yesterday’s election. We appreciate all your contributions to the democratic process and our ongoing dialogue about the future of our communities.”

“I especially want to recognize Karen Kejick in Kenora-Rainy River, and Chief Clifford Bull and Sol Mamakwa in Kiiwetinoong, for bringing strong Indigenous voices and perspective to the race. We are proud of you.”

“The leadership of Grand Council Treaty 3 looks forward to working with the two incoming MPPs for the Treaty 3 region. We will reach out to Greg Rickford and Sol Mamakwa in due course to update them on our priorities and how we can continue to build our nation-to-nation relationship.”

“Finally, I wish to extend my best wishes to outgoing Premier Kathleen Wynne. Premier Wynne has carried out her role with respect, principle, and grace. Miigwetch, Premier Wynne.”

“We welcome the opportunity to build a relationship with Premier-Elect Doug Ford and strengthening our ties with incoming Opposition Leader Andrea Horwath.”
