Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh and Grand Council Treaty #3 Applaud Chief of Treaty #3 Police on Governor General’s Award

Earlier this month, Chief of Treaty #3 Police Kai Liu was presented with the Governor Order of Merit of Police Forces award in a virtual ceremony. Chief Liu’s wife, Heidi Liu, presented the award.

Established in October 2000, the Order of Merit of the Police Forces honours the leadership and exceptional service or distinctive merit displayed by the men and women of the Canadian Police Services The primary focus is on exceptional merit, contributions to policing and community development.

“Leading indigenous police services is challenging at the best of times, and Chief Kai Liu has done so at a time when all the added stresses of a global pandemic added to the workload,” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “His steadfast leadership and consistent advocacy for our police service has shown me that Chief Liu has definitely earned his place among the Treaty #3 Police family.”

Grand Council Treaty #3 has coordinated efforts with the Treaty #3 Police Service to advocate for increased resources meant to alleviate the issues caused by chronic underfunding of indigenous police services across Canada.

Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh and Grand Council Treaty #3 will continue to advocate and coordinate with Chief Kai Liu and the Treaty #3 Police to improve the effectiveness of police services in the Treaty #3 territory.
