Job Overview:

The Grand Council “Project Lead – Cecilia Jeffery Residential School Project” position reports directly to the CEO of the Treaty #3 Investment Group and will work to complete the land transfer of the Cecilia Jeffery Property. The Project Lead will also provide guidance and support to the CJ Property Advisory Council as they go through investigations, negotiations and future development of the property.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides overall guidance and coordination to the CJ Advisory Council, including consultant(s) and legal advisor(s) and works to ensure that GCT3 expectations and goals are met;
  • Responsible to negotiate the land transfer to Treaty #3 of CJ Property
  • Provides regular information updates to and assists in project decision-making between GCT3 Administration, GCT3 Board, other GCT3 departments and GCT3 Leadership – Chiefs and Office of the Ogichidaa;
  • Responsible for meeting the deadlines and requirements of the Transfer Payment Agreements with the funding governments
  • Ensures project liaison, coordination and information sharing with and between:
    • CJ Advisory Council
    • Treaty #3 communities,
    • participating GCT3 departments, including IRS
    • Ontario and Canada government funders,
    • GCT3 Administration;
  • Assists with community engagement and information sharing activities
  • Provides regular information updates to all Treaty #3 communities via newsletters, updates to Chiefs, presentations/briefing notes at leadership meetings and gatherings, as required;
  • Provide Grand Council policy, position statements and representation at national, regional, and local community gatherings, meetings
  • Other related duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
  • During an emergency epidemic/pandemic situation, job duties will be reviewed and reassigned accordingly.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with land transfers and/or negotiations
  • Knowledge of the Anishinaabe in Treaty #3
  • Completion of a university degree baccalaureate and/or three years of related experience
  • Proficient spoken and written English with an understanding of the Anishinaabe language is a must.
  • Proficient with various office based software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Power Point), online video-conferencing platforms (Zoom, Blue Jeans, Microsoft team).
  • Ability to format, draft correspondence, reports, and proposals.
  • Ability to provide professional client/community service and communicate effectively and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take initiative, plan youth outings in communities, be organized and punctual, and work with minimal supervision.

Working Conditions:

  • Must have valid driver’s license, in good standing and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must have a clear criminal records/vulnerable sector check is required upon hiring.
  • Must be able to travel on short notice.
  • Travel may be required within Kenora and surrounding areas.
  • Busy office setting and repetitive work.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Interacts with public at large.
  • Overtime may be required.
