Nibwaakaawin Elders Gathering
Fond Du Lac, MN, U.S. – On Tuesday, February 27th to Friday, March 2nd 2018, Grand Council Treaty #3 and over 200 Elders, Chiefs, and members of the Anishinaabe Nation of Treaty #3 are gathering in the Traditional Territory of the Fond Du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa at Black Bear Casino Resort in Carlton, Minnesota. This is the first Grand Council Treaty #3 has hosted a Treaty #3 wide Elders Gathering. The members of the Treaty #3 Nation received an official welcome from the Chairman and members of the Fond Du Lac Tribe. The Fond du Lac Tribe was honoured by a ceremonial Chiefs song.
The Elder’s Gathering provides the Treaty #3 Nation an opportunity to discuss important issues affecting the Nation in Treaty #3, including Manito Aki Inakonigaawin, the Health Care Law, Education Initiatives, Hunting and Trapping, Traditional Justice, and substance abuse and life preservation. In addition to addressing serious issues, Don Burnstick, Cree comedian from the Alexander First Nation will be entertaining the crowd Thursday night.
