Territorial Planning Unit Director

This position is responsible for working with the Executive Director, Office of the Grand Chief, Environmental Sustainability Chiefs and the partner Ministries signatory to the M.O.U. and L.O.C. through a policy working table on lands, resource management issues and to enhance economic opportunities for GCT#3 Anishinaabe communities.  The Director will analyze policy issues, consult and negotiate at a senior level with Government of Ontario Ministries. The Director and staff will provide information and develop an understanding and respect of Manito Aki Inakonigaawin.

The Director will gather information for the preparation of well-researched and accurate expert advice and recommendations on the management, operations and policy with a whole-of-territory perspective regarding activities, developments and Crown-side resource management decision-making, and the economic development of the territory especially in the areas of mineral development and mining, forestry and biofibre and renewable energy opportunities, managing projects, reporting, budgeting and supervising staff and contractors of the Territorial Planning Unit.


Relevant University Degree and qualifications and/or equivalent demonstrated work experience which will include knowledge of land use planning, Ontario policy approaches to Consultation, strategic planning, negotiations and research prioritization. Senior level management experience and well demonstrated collaborative, team building and leadership experience, including human resources, finance, computer proficiency and excellent communication skills. Driver’s license and use of personal vehicle is required. A business management background and the ability to communicate in Anishinaabemowin would be considered an assets.
