Grand Council Treaty #3 Staff Appointed to Sustainable Development Advisory Council of Canada

Grand Council Treaty #3 is pleased to announce the appointment of Geneva Kejick, Territorial Planning Unit Climate Specialist to serve on the federal governments Sustainable Development Advisory Council of Canada. Ms. Kejick was appointed by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change, the Honourable Jonathon Wilkinson on December 23rd 2020. Ms. Kejick has accepted to be a part of the council that is currently developing the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy, until 2024.

“On behalf of Grand Council Treaty #3 I would like to congratulate Geneva for being selected to serve on this advisory council and commend her on the leadership in climate change that she has demonstrated in Treaty #3” said Ogichidaa Francis Kavanaugh. “These are important steps in the recognition of the work and leadership that the Anishinaabe Nation of Treaty #3 brings forward in our shared fight against climate change.”

Background on the Sustainable Development Advisory Council:

The Sustainable Development Advisory Council is established under the Federal Sustainable Development Act and is responsible for reviewing and commenting on drafts of the Federal Sustainable Development Strategy, as well as providing advice on any matter of sustainable development referred to it by the Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

The Council is made up of members of the Canadian public that represent the views of different provinces and territories, Indigenous peoples, as well as environmental non-governmental organizations and business and labour organizations.
